When one thinks of Branson, Chinese acrobats usually aren’t the first thing that come to mind.

For the past 16 seasons, though, the New Shanghai Circus has been thrilling audiences as “The Acrobats of China,” one of the area’s most popular shows.

“We have seen it each and every year we’ve visited, and we’ve been coming here for 10 years,” said Laine Slade, of Collins, Miss., who saw the show Tuesday night. “The kids love it, and this show had several new things we haven’t seen before.”

According to emcee Freya Lui, several changes to the show take place every year.

“The performers generally come to town in March and leave in December,” Lui said. “So, each year, we get new performers with new specialties. They make this area their home for about 10 months.”

While March to December booking is usually the norm, the current group of acrobats will be featured until the end of the summer, at which point a new group will come in for a few months. “The other group will come back to perform this August,” Lui said. “So we do change the show every few months."
